How to Calculate NEB GPA
To calculate your NEB GPA, first determine the grade point for each subject based on your percentage (A+ = 4.0, A = 3.6, B+ = 3.2, B = 2.8, C+ = 2.4, C = 2.0, D = 1.6, NG = 0.0). Multiply each grade point by its credit hours (Nepali: 3, English: 4, Social Studies/Life Skill: 5, optional subjects: 5). Sum these weighted points and divide by total credit hours (27).

How the Credit Hour System Works
NEB uses a weighted credit hour system. Subjects with more credit hours have a greater impact on your final GPA.

Theory vs. Practical Weighting

Important Exceptions You Must Know
Uses a 50-50 split instead of the standard 75-25. This means practical marks carry more weight. A strong practical performance can significantly boost your grade.
If you score below 35% in any subject, you receive an NG grade (0.0 grade point). You must pass at least 5 out of 6 subjects in Class 11, and 7 out of 8 subjects in Class 12. Otherwise, you must take a grade increment re-exam.
You must secure at least 35% in both theory and practical separately. Getting 70% in theory but 30% in practical means you fail (NG) the subject.

Practical Tips for Better GPA
English (4 hours) and Social Studies/Life Skill (5 hours) have the biggest impact. Prioritize these subjects to maximize your GPA.
Don't neglect practical preparation. You need 35% in both components to pass. Many students focus only on theory and fail practical.
Plan according to your goals:
- College admission: Aim for 2.4+ GPA
- Competitive programs: Aim for 3.2+ GPA
- Scholarships: Aim for 3.6+ GPA
Since Computer Science is 50-50, practical marks matter much more. Focus equally on both components to boost your score.
